Reflection #1

    • Reflection
This week I learned so many things. I learned how kindergartners behave and what is expected of them. Before this week, I had forgotten what they already know and what they understand. At this point in their lives they are just learning manners, how to write, and counting. I also learned how trauma affects behavior. The things that some of the kids experienced, I couldn’t even imagine. These bad experiences result in the kids acting out and hitting others. I got a better understanding of the PBIS program, and how it is helping the school system with creating  better communication with the students.
I loved what I was doing. Even though it was really tiring, it was great to get to know the kids. The thing that I liked most out of this experience was thinking of fun projects to do with the kids.  I like arts and crafts and it was fun to help others complete projects. There were a lot of surprises this week. I did not know what to expect, going into it I had questions like: What would the kids be like? Would they like me?  I was surprised by how many kids have experienced trauma in their life. At such a young age, it can really impact their behavior. I have benefitted from this week in Michigan because it helped me learn more about myself and what I want to do in the future. I think that after this week, although it was really fun, I think I can say that I would like to teach a higher grade. Kindergarten is a time period where kids are really learning everything for the first time. I think that I would want to teach kids who already have a basic understanding of things.
